Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Software Engineer - Senior to support product development, sustainment, integration and modernization for Department of Homeland Security equipment used at border crossings and airports. This position is located in Sterling, VA .

In this position, the successful candidate will:

• Performs advanced software engineering and analysis. Conducts quality control review, data reporting, and writes/reviews technical documents.

• Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs new and existing software systems, hardware/software interfaces, and/or applications according to industry established software engineering principals and best practices.

• Works collaboratively within a team to execute the full system development lifecycle, including analyzing user needs to determine technical requirements; developing technical specifications based on conceptual design and requirements; developing well-crafted and documented source code; integrating hardware using software; automating manual tasks; and consulting with the end users to prototype, configure, refine, test, and debug programs or systems.

• Identifies and evaluates new technologies or methods for implementation and continuous improvementy.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex assignments by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for software systems, hardware/software interfaces, and/or applications.

• Analyzes and interprets data collected.

• Prepares technical reports and makes presentations to client, both formal and informal.

• Conducts and leads small technical projects or phases of technical projects.

• May provide technical direction to and coordinate the efforts of software engineers and technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects within time and budget constraints.

• Prepares technical sections of proof of concept design documents, white papers and presentations. Performs Analysis of Alternatives.

• Communicates with client with regard to the schedule and quality of deliverables.

• Oversees, mentors and trains lower-level staff.

• Creates software designs from use cases that consider security, ease of use, error and fault conditions, remote diagnostics and ease of maintenance.

• Participates in, reviews and prepares material for code reviews and design reviews, interface documents, requirements documents to ensure product will meet customer requirements.

• Reviews test procedures, data and oversees integrated testing.

• Follows safety, security, quality, configuration management and operating policies and procedures.

• Identifies enhancements to reduce life-cycle cost, improve performance, and integrate new technology.

• Supports sustainment of deployed system software to ensure equipment availability.

Key Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field with 5 years of experience or master's degree in related field with 2 years of experience or PhD; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.

• Ability to follow complex written or oral instructions accurately and efficiently.

• Candidates should be highly motivated self-starters with a strong desire to learn.

• Eligibility and willingness to obtain a Secret Clearance and DHS Suitability.

• Must be US Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in one or more of the following technologies: License Plate Reader (LPR), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, digital signage, kiosks, biometrics, mobile technologies, artificial intelligence, IoT, Wireless communications, imaging systems, camera analytics, non-intrusive inspection equipment.

• Agile development process.

• Active Secret Clearance.

• Active DHS or CBP Suitability.
