    Kimley-Horn has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a motivated Rail Design Manager to join our team in Northern VA. Our Senior Project Managers have an entrepreneurial spirit, drive success for their clients, and contribute to growing the firm's capabilities.

    Kimley-Horn is the Program Manager for the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority's (VPRA) Transforming Rail in Virginia program ( ~~~/ ). This $4B+ programof projects is a result of transactions with CSX Transportation (CSXT) and Norfolk Southern (NS) where the Commonwealth of Virginia purchased right-of-way and rail infrastructure and will deliver projects that allow for the expansion of passenger rail across Virginia. Kimley-Horn is looking for senior leadership to join our team to deliver this program of projects. As VPRA's Program Manager, Kimley-Horn serves as an owner's representative supporting the development and delivery of the Transforming Rail in Virginia projects either directly or by providing oversight of other agencies and contractors involved in executing the work on behalf of VPRA. Support areas are broad and include: Capital Program Management Support, Capital Project Development and Delivery Support, Real Estate and Asset Management Services Support, Passenger Rail Service Planning and Performance Monitoring Support; and Grant Program Management Support.

    Responsibilities

    Leadership responsibilities include: operating with integrity and sound business principals; building and maintaining positive client relationships; partnering closely with clients; balancing managing complex projects/programs and working within integrated project teams in a non-leadership/management role; having open communication with team members and other staff; and serving as a subject-matter expert on technical project delivery matters. Our Senior Project Managers manage their projects profitably, transition work to qualified staff, grow and mentor staff, and act as a positive leader and mentor both within the firm and within the industry overall. The successful candidate will be given a great deal of autonomy to lead and direct service to clients, to grow others, and to grow our business.

    Expected Responsibilities Include

    • Manage an integrated team responsible for delivering a group of projects to ensure scope, cost, and schedule are maintained

    • Effectively communicate with the project teams and the client

    • Identify and anticipate project issues and concerns for discussion with leadership

    • Review deliverables and oversee team responsible for resolving all comments associated with deliverables

    • Review public project applications across VPRA's assets

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field

    • PE in Virginia (or can obtain)

    • Registered engineer with 15 or more years of experience in freight, intercity, and commuter rail projects

    • AutoCAD/Microstation, AREMA standards, P6/Microsoft Project/other scheduling software, and project document control platforms experience

    • Ability to effectively communicate positively at all levels of the organization and with client organizations

    • Ability to manage and mentor staff, and direct resources effectively in a positive manner
