    We are seeking highly motivated Mechanical Engineers to support the development and sustainment of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) anti-ballistic missile system project in Huntsville, AL. This position requires on-site work to be performed in Huntsville, AL. There are no remote work options.

    As a Mechanical Engineer with an emphasis on Structural Engineering, you will support the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Hardware Engineering team's design efforts working within an Agile environment. Your core tasks will entail evaluating structural design solutions via analysis for multiple Ground Systems (GS) IPT hardware systems and their structural interfaces with facilities. Under the direction of your product line owner, responsibilities include performing structural analyses IAW industry and military standards, evaluating structural hardware design efforts, scheduling, and planning required tasks, leading small teams, and writing reports to support milestone reviews. Accountability and active participation in team scrum meetings and internal/external demos, and documenting progress on team dashboards is expected.

    Requirements :

    • Current active US DoD Secret Security clearance is required

    • BS in Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering and minimum 5 Years of Experience, Or 3 Years of Experience and a Masters' degree within a STEM field

    • Prior experience with the design, test, and/or integration and deployment of mechanical and structural components, systems, or subsystems

    • Understanding and application of industry engineering technical standards; demonstrated structural design experience and impact assessment

    • Must be able to support an in-person / closed-area work environment full time

    • Requirements-driven structural hardware design, test, and evaluation

    • Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Modeling theory and application using industry standard structural analysis software (ANSYS, GTStrudl, ABAQUS, STAAD, Femap, NX Simcenter, NASTRAN, Creo Simulation or SolidWorks Simulation)

    • Experience performing static structural analysis of composite or metallic parts

    • Experience performing dynamic structural analysis of composite or metallic parts (modal, shock, vibration, transient loading)

    • Experience in writing technical reports, test procedures, and specifications

    • Experience in one or more of the following system engineering knowledge areas: technical planning, requirements derivation, functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, cost and risk analysis, interface definition, system design, system integration, verification and validation, supportability, and effectiveness analyses for total systems

    • SolidWorks, NX and Teamcenter experience

    • DOORS and/or CAMEO exposure

    • Experience with classified test systems or systems subject to cyber security policies and risk management framework (RMF)

    • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1366, MIL-HDBK-1791, UFC 3-301-02, UFC 3-301-01, ASCE 7, ICC-ES AC 156

    • Ability to communicate data in a clear and concise manner

    • Experience leading a small team, including task and schedule planning, to meet major project milestone objectives

    • Experience in Agile Development

    • Ability to show self as self-starter, team player, able to multi-task, able to generate quality work products independently, able to make excellent judgement and show interpersonal skills

    • Ability to travel at least 10%

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Generate engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, and test reports

    • Mentoring and cross-training junior engineers in analysis work, reviews, and approving their analysis results to meet customer requirements

    • Experience using analytical software tools, such as MATLAB or Python, to analyze and reduce data to identify key characteristics and trends

    • Experience with mission critical and safety critical systems, components, etc.

    • Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Core Standards: MDAQS-001-MAP, MDA-QS-003-PMAP, MDA Instruction 5000.20-INS (ETR Process)

    • Familiarity with the GMD domain and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware

    • PE License in Civil/Structural Engineering
