  • Essential Duties of Position:

    · Fully own the mission, goals, operations, and results of the Learning and Development department. This responsibility is non-delegable.

    · Provide strong leadership to the VP's direct and indirect reports. This leadership includes generating enthusiasm and shared commitment; identifying and setting new directions; teaching, growing, and empowering; owning outcomes; and leading by example. This responsibility is non-delegable. Specific leadership duties include:

    (1) Establishing the vision and tone for the department, consistent with company culture and mission; (2) Establishing clear goals and performance expectations. (3) Hiring individuals who can accomplish those goals and meet those expectations, and providing them the open communications, training, tools, and mentoring they need to be successful and develop professionally, and a development path commensurate with capabilities and potential. (4) Providing clear and accurate feedback to individuals and teams on a timely and consistent basis. Identifying and addressing performance problems early and effectively before they damage GCI's interests and demoralize other employees. These processes include annual performance reviews, compensation adjustments, promotions, demotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions up to and including termination.

    Essential Duties of Position:

    Program Development and Execution

    • Create and facilitate key internal and external learning initiatives that link back to departmental or organizational strategy and impact, champion leaders at all levels of GCI, and focus on Manager/Leader Development and competency development.

    • Work closely with leaders to translate the current and future needs of the organization into L&D strategies and practices that help grow our employees, build excellent management, and support high performing teams.

    • Manage the L&D project plan process from inception to launch for key strategic learning initiatives including; Conducting a needs assessment, designing/developing curricula using proven instructional design methodologies, piloting programs, launching across the organization, and continuously evaluating program effectiveness.

    • Develop programs, teaching formats and platforms that are results-driven, creative, innovative and user-friendly using various blended learning methodologies and delivery methods; including but not limited to: storyboards, facilitator guides, instructor-led classroom, panels, self-directed learning, structured peer communities, and virtual training with video and synchronous/asynchronous events, and evolving technologies.

    • Research industry trends/technology/best practices and proactively leverage L& D metrics and analytics to inform and reimagine curriculum decisions and designs to elevate our capability to the next level.

    • Evaluate learning program results and reports on metrics (ROI) to assess the overall effectiveness of L&D initiatives. Evaluates and provides feedback on course material and presentations.

    Strategy and Communication

    • In partnership with the Senior Director, Learning and Development, ensure there is synergy between L&D and appropriate interdepartmental strategic initiatives.

    • Serve as consultant to teams and individuals for organizational development to help them to be more effective by addressing issues related to structure, culture, process or individual performance.

    • In partnership with the Senior Director, Learning and Development, build strong communication, communication strategies, and project plans to increase organizational awareness and facilitate timely completion of all work.

    • Model exemplary presentation, instruction, and facilitation skills focused on building learner awareness, application, and behavior change.

    Management

    • Responsible for hiring, leading, developing and managing the performance of those reporting to this position. Establishes and communicates clear performance expectations, makes recommendations for salary increases.

    • Provides timely annual performance reviews to all direct reports and ensures that all employees within the department receive annual performance reviews on time. Responsible for team results and recommends and/or approves promotions, demotions, transfers or disciplinary actions up to and including termination.

    • Maintains union-free workforce through effective communication and regular feedback to employees regarding their performance against expectations and use of effective performance recognition of groups involved.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Leadership Proven ability to lead an organization to high levels of performance while maintaining morale and personal growth for employees in a union free environment. Ability to act as a positive mentor and coach to subordinates and instill a coaching environment in the organization.

    • Financial skills Ability to develop detailed capital and operating budgets for the department. Familiar with reporting and tracking tools necessary to assure budget guidelines meet expectations.

    • Analytical skills Demonstrated ability to analyze complex challenging problems and situations leading to optimal solutions.

    • Organizational skills Ability to develop the organization necessary to meet the group mission and to interface with other units within the company.

    • People skills Demonstrated ability to manage performance through motivation and counseling of different levels of employees.

    • Possess senior-level expertise across a variety of instructional methods and training techniques including curriculum design principles, adult learning theory, and blended learning strategies.

    • Demonstrated ability to assess organizational and departmental development needs and translate them into practical learning and development solutions that have measurable impact on behaviors and outcomes.

    • Demonstrated experience in using multiple instructional design options and learning methodologies (e.g. classroom, online, blended, distance learning) to create innovative solutions.

    • Expert level of training, facilitation and internal consulting skill up through senior executive level. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Proven ability to establish credibility as an instructor, create an energetic and supportive learning climate, encourage participation, deliver constructive feedback and ensure learning that continues.

    • Advanced interpersonal and relationship management skills as demonstrated by the ability to engage and influence others, and build collaborative relationships both with the team, across the organization at all levels, and with outside vendors.

    • Previous management experience with excellent coaching and mentoring skills.

    • Strong project management and prioritization skills with ability to meet deadlines consistently in a fast-paced rapidly changing environment with minimal daily oversight.

    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications to include using virtual applications.

    Minimum qualifications:

    • Minimum of twelve years' experience of progressive experience in training and/or organizational development, focused on professional skills and management/leadership development

    • Include a minimum of five years in a corporate environment,

    • Minimum of five years of facilitation experience, two of which should be at a mid to senior executive level.

    • In addition, should include five years in a corporate managerial role.

    • High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree in human resources, education, organizational development, business administration or related field required. Relevant Master's Degree may substitute for professional experience on a year for year basis.

    Certifications: Industry specific certifications are highly valued and may contribute toward education.

    Physical Requirements: Office Position: Ability to perform sedentary work. Physical effort should include the necessary dexterity to perform the tasks of the job. Clarity of vision to see near, mid-range, and color. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.

    Working Conditions: Work is performed in a standard office environment or remote offices during a normal 40-hour workweek with additional hours to meet deadlines. Interaction with upset customers, vendors, or employees may occur. Regular travel for business and training purposes is required.

    The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the normal business hours to respond to the immediate emergency. You will be requested to provide an emergency after hours contact numbers.

    Driving Requirements (if applicable): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and a satisfactory driving record.
